Prior Experience / Idean

Turning advanced wound imaging into a tool clinicians could use.

SpectralMD's DeepView system combined advanced imaging and machine learning to help medical professionals assess wounds without making contact with the patient.

Idean helped translate that technology into an intuitive clinical experience, from the device interface and workflow to the guidance required to use it safely.

01 / The Opportunity

Help clinicians see what isn't visible on the surface.

Assessing the severity of a wound can require understanding what is happening beneath the skin, not just what is visible on the surface. DeepView used light and machine learning to provide medical professionals with real-time information about tissue below the surface without making contact with the patient.

The challenge was to make that sophisticated technology understandable and usable in a clinical setting.

02 / Experience Design

Turn complex technology into a clear clinical workflow.

In preparation for DeepView's first round of FDA testing, the team designed a digital experience that made the system's capabilities accessible to the medical professionals using it.

The work included developing the visual identity and designing and prototyping the core workflow for a 24-inch vertical touchscreen display.

The interface needed to communicate sophisticated imaging and analysis through a workflow that could be understood quickly and used confidently in a clinical environment.

03 / Product Experience

The experience didn't end at the interface.

For a specialized medical device, usability also depends on what happens when someone needs help operating it.

Alongside the touchscreen experience, the team created a quick-start guide that allowed healthcare professionals to get oriented without first reading a full manual.

A comprehensive 55-page product manual provided detailed operating instructions, safety information, and technical guidance.

04 / Outcome

From interface concept to a complete product experience.

The resulting experience brought DeepView's imaging and analysis capabilities into a cohesive clinical workflow, supported by the guidance medical professionals needed to operate the system.

DeepView subsequently received FDA clearance.
